Obituary for Lydia S Libardi

Lydia S. Libardi, 94 of Canaan, NY, died peacefully at home Tuesday, October 18, surrounded by her family.
Born in Pittsfield, MA on November 26, 1927, the daughter of Quirino and Mary Pegorari, she graduated as valedictorian from Williams High School, in Stockbridge, MA.
After graduating, Lydia went to work at Troy’s Garage in West Stockbridge, MA, the GE in Pittsfield, and lastly at the Berkshire Farm Center for Boys where she retired 20 years later.
Following retirement Lydia and her late husband Frank, enjoyed traveling across the country and fit in a couple trips to Europe as well.
For 11 years they spent their winters in Daytona Beach with their many friends.
Lydia’s hobbies were tending to her flower gardens. She loved the color purple, loved to bake, and within the family was famous for her checkerboard birthday cakes. Lydia, a big Yankee fan, always put family first and her greatest enjoyment were her 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. You would always find a great meal and wonderful homemade goodies whenever you stopped in to visit. Even if not expected, she made you feel welcome and fed.
Lydia is predeceased by her husband, Frank, who passed away two years ago after 73 years of marriage.
She is survived by her 4 children, Sharon (Howie) McArdle of East Nassau, Christine (John) Sterritt of Hampden, MA., Peter (Teresa) Libardi of Canaan, and Eileen (Steve) Fusco of Queensbury.
She leaves 11 grandchildren, Bryan, Randee, Ellen, Heather, Adrienne, Erin, Ryan, Dan, Nick, Tom, and Christina. Also, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Lydia is also survived by her sister, Joy Sherman and predeceased by her brother, John Pegorari.
The family would like to give special thanks to Lydia’s wonderful caregivers; Debbie, Ann, Michelle, Ellen, and Faith and the many others who helped with her care. We couldn’t have kept her in her own home without you.
We’d also like to thank the Hospice Angels. They truly are special people!!!
