Obituary for Lucien G. Martin

LUCIEN G. 'FRENCHY' MARTIN, 86, of 19 Prospect Street, Dalton, died Thursday, February 28, at his home. Born in Loc-Baker, New Brunswick, Canada, he attended schools in Canada, came to the United States in 1940, and had lived in Dalton since 1950.
A World War II veteran, he served as a Private First Class with the United States Army Air Force from December 1942 to January 1946.
Mr. Martin owned and operated Dalton Auto Body from 1950 until 1988.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church. He was a member of the Dalton
American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 2004, Mr. Martin was given a
plaque in recognition of his 50-year membership with Post 155. At one time, he sponsored a softball team in the Dalton Fast Pitch League for
many years. He enjoyed fishing on Lake Ontario in Mexico, New York, and ice fished in
Vermont for many years. His favorite thing in life was playing cards, and for the last ten years played at the Pittsfield Senior Center every day; he also played at the Dalton Legion and VFW. He enjoyed many winters at his second home in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Mr. Martin's wife, the former, Jacqueline F. Fetherston, whom he married June
12, 1943, died October 27, 1966. His companion for the past ten years has been his dog,
Jackie. Mr. Martin is survived by two sons, Richard G. "Rick" Martin of Dalton and
Michael J. "Mick" Martin of Pittsfield; a daughter, Sally T. Furlano of Dalton; a brother,
Albert Martin of Pasadena, California; ten grandchildren and l7 great grandchildren. He
was pre-deceased by three brothers and three sisters.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for LUCIEN G. 'FRENCHY' MARTIN will be Saturday, March 1, at 9:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Martin may be made to the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
