Obituary for Lucien J. Grandbois

Mr. Lucien J. Grandbois, 88, formerly of 221 Barker Rd. Pittsfield, died Saturday at Springside of Pittsfield where he resided since November 30, 2001. Born on October 18, 1918 in Burlington, Vermont, he was a son of the late Alfred and Laura Frenette Grandbois. A longtime resident of Pittsfield, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II. He married his wife, the former Shirley Keyes Clancy on November 28, 1959. She died on January 6, 2002. Mr. Grandbois was employed as a machinist for forty years at General Electric in the Power Transformer Division. He retired in 1980. He also owned and operated the Liberty Court Motel in Hancock, MA from 1956 until he sold the motel in 1984. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Lebanon, New York and a longtime communicant of the former Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield. He was a member of the Pittsfield Veterans of Foreign Wars and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, hunting and fishing. He was also a Boston Red Sox fan. He leaves a brother, J. Roland Grandbois of Pittsfield and a sister, Miss Yvonne Grandbois also of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Condron late of New Lebanon, NY who died on October 6, 2006.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Lucien J. Grandbois, 88, of Pittsfield who died January 6, 2007 will be held on Wednesday at 8:15 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Dery Funeral Home. Mr. Grandbois also leaves his son-law, John "Jack" Condron of New Lebanon, NY and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and daughter, he was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Grandbois may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
