Obituary for Louis J. Mazza

LOUIS JOHN MAZZA, 87, of 240 Benedict Road, Pittsfield, died Sunday, November 2, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield, September 21, 1921, a son of Louis and Philomena Stroffalino Mazza, he was a graduate of St. Joseph Central High School.
A World War II, veteran, he enlisted in the United States Army in September 1942 and served with 672th Bombardment Squadron. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in January 1946.
Mr. Mazza was a self-employed builder and owner-operator of Louis J. Mazza,
Inc. from 1946 until retiring in 2000.
He was a communicant of the former St. Mary the Morning Star Church. He
was a member of the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriff's Association. He was an avid
swimmer at the YMCA. He also enjoyed fishing, archery, and woodworking.
Mr. Mazza leaves his wife, the former Margaret O. Erbin, whom he married September 21, 1946, in the former Notre Dame Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Engle and her husband,
Robert, of Pittsfield; two sisters, Mary Koch of Pittsfield and Virginia Piacenti of Dalton,
two grandchildren, Shane R. Engle of New York City and Patrick R. Engle of Pittsfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Joseph Mazza.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for LOUIS JOHN MAZZA, who died Sunday, November 2, will
be Thursday, November 6, at 8:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy
of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Michael
A. Shershanovich, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours
will be Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Mazza may be made to UNICO Make-A-Wish, P.O. Box 2672, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
