Obituary for Lionel "Spike" Smith

Lionel (Spike) D. Smith, 66, of Allendale Pines, 245 Cheshire Road, Pittsfield, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at his home.
Born in Rochester, New York on August 8, 1949, the son of the late Ronal R. Smith and Gladys L. Dowker, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Lionel moved to Florida in 1981 and spent his career there as an Executive Chef at numerous restaurants. His love for the Berkshires and his family allowed him to return to Pittsfield in 2002, upon his return, he worked with his sister Donna at Angelina's on Elm Street.
Known as "Spike" to his friends and family, he always enjoyed laughing and cracking jokes.
Lionel was a nature enthusiast, he loved animals, especially the Bird Sanctuary and spending time in the Pittsfield State Forest fishing and hiking with his dog Sasha. He also enjoyed going to Flea Markets and spending time working in his garden.
Lionel is survived by two sons; Jamison S. Smith of Okeechobee, FL and Jeremy L. Smith and his wife Jeanne of Melbourne Beach, FL, a brother; Ronald J. Smith and his wife Donna of Pittsfield, four sisters; Ramona A. Hamilton of Hinsdale, MA, Donna L. Plankey and her husband Christopher of Pittsfield, Arlene L. Solemani and her husband Mohammed of Belchertown, MA, and Nancy E. Simmons of Roanoke, VA.
He was pre-deceased by a brother; Donald L. Smith.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Calling Hours for Lionel D. Smith who died July 15, 2016 will be held Wednesday, July 20th from 4-6p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Lionel's memory can be made to the Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in care of the funeral home.
