Obituary for Linda Sambel

Linda Sambel of Lanesborough passed away February 5, 2021 at her home.
Born in Pittsfield on August 3, 1941, the daughter of Albert and Muriel Fillio Sambel, she attended Lanesborough and Pittsfield schools, and was a 1959 graduate of Pittsfield High School. In 1995, she earned her college degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in American Studies with minors in Anthropology and Psychology.
While in the Berkshires, she was employed as a graphics specialist at General Systems Company and later worked for Wave Systems Corp. in Lee. Prior to that, she worked in the Biology Department at Massachusetts Institute of Technology as office administrator to two research and teaching professors and their combined laboratories of 40 researchers and graduate students. It was her time spent at MIT that firmed her decision to pursue her college education.
She retired from the workforce in March 2015 and spent her time traveling, as she enjoyed experiencing different cultures and meeting new people. Her travels took her to such diverse places as Japan, Italy, Morocco and Africa, as well as many areas of the United States. When she wasn’t traveling, she continued her interest in learning with Osher Lifelong Learning classes, enjoyed the Berkshire’s many theatre offerings, and spent time outdoors hiking, kayaking, gardening and snowshoeing.
She is survived by several cousins.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. Those wishing to do so, may make memorial contributions in her name to any of the following: Doctors Without Border; Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center; OLLI at BCC; Barrington Stage Company; Williamstown Theatre Festival; Shakespeare & Company; and mailed to Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 0120
