Obituary for Leonard W. Archambault

LEONARD WILFRED ARCHAMBAULT, 82, of Devonshire Estates, Lenox, where he had lived the past fourteen months, formerly a resident of Oxford Street, Pittsfield, for many years, died Wednesday afternoon at Kimball Farms Nursing Care
Center of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease).Born in Pittsfield, March 7, 1925, a son of Roland P. and Marie A. Paulhus
Archambault, he was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1943 graduate of the former
Dalton High School.
A World War II veteran, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine
Corps from March 5, 1943, to June 4, 1946.
Following his discharge, he joined the former Brookshire Ford.
An insurance agent for many years, Mr. Archambault worked for Metropolitan
Life Insurance Company from 1955 to 1980. After his retirement, he worked part-time
in City Savings Bank's Savings Bank Life Insurance Department from 1986 to 1989.
Mr. Archambault was a member of the Charles A. Persip American Legion Post
68 where he served as a Post Commander from 1985 to 1986, and was also its adjutant
and finance officer at different times. An enthusiastic supporter of the Legion's Boys
State Program, he chaired both the Post 68 and the District l Boys State committees and
as a vice chairman and chairman of the Department of Massachusetts Boys State
Committee. In 2006, he was recognized for 60 years continuous Legion membership.
He was a longtime member of the Berkshire Coin Club and served a term as its
President. He was active with the Pittsfield Squares and Berkshire Archaeological
Group. He photographed the progress of urban development in Pittsfield over the past
two decades and presented a public slide program. He took great interest in a family link
with the early history of Montreal, Quebec, where Jacques Archambault's 1658 well in
d'Youville is a historical site. His other interests included golf, woodworking,
gardening, and family camping.
Mr. Archambault is survived by his wife, the former Clara C. Masino, whom
he married May 6, 1950, in All Souls Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Marc L. Archambault of Claremont,
California; a daughter, Donna M. Drew of Great Barrington; a brother, Paul E.
Archambault of Dalton; a sister, Elaine Boyd of North Eastham, Massachusetts; and two
granddaughters.


FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for LEONARD WILFRED ARCHAMBAULT, who died
Wednesday, March 7, will be Monday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL
HOME, with Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, C.C.S., Pastor of All Souls Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will beheld on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM at the Dery Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory
of Mr. Archambault may be made to Post 68's Boys State Fund in care of the Funeral
Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, or to HospiceCare in The Berkshires, 369 South
Street, Pittsfield.
Mr. Archambault also leaves his son-in-law, Bernard A. Drew, his daughter-in-
law, Amy McGough; his two granddaughters, Jessie Drew and Darcie Drew, and several
nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Robert, in 1991. Mr.
Archambault and his family especially appreciated the care and support of HospiceCare
staff and volunteers.
