Obituary for Leo J. Charland

Leo Joseph Charland, 70, of 405 Pittsfield Road, Lenox, died Friday, January 17, 2014, at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox where he had been a patient the past week. Born in Pittsfield on January 9, 1944, a son of Lorenzo and Beatrice Lussier Charland, he was a
1961 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He had served with the United States Army Reserves.
Mr. Charland was a jeweler by profession. He began his career with Roger Jewelers in Pittsfield.
He was then one of the original jewelers and partners of Crown Jewelers. Mr. Charland then became the proprietor of Joseph Jewelers in Great Barrington for ten years and then of Country Gold in Pittsfield and in Lenox for ten years. He retired in 2009.
He was an avid bass fisherman and a member of the Massachusetts Anglers. He enjoyed
camping and kayaking, plants and gardening, and loved cars. He was also a life long Red Sox fan and
enjoyed playing racquet ball. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Mr. Charland is survived by a son, Mark T. Charland, and his wife, Patty Brown-Charland, of
Pittsfield; two daughters, Lynn J. Shiner of Pittsfield, and Beth E. Doody and her husband, Jeffrey, of Melrose, Massachusetts; three brothers, Armand Charland of Pittsfield, Louis Charland and his wife,
Caroline of The Villages, Florida, and Philip Charland, of Pittsfield; two sisters, Theresa Marby of
Adams and Lillian Charland of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Tarryn, Dane, Lucas, David, Kira, and Norah;
and many nieces and nephews, as well as his former wife, Elaine C. Charland, of Pittsfield; and his extended "family".
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Jeanne Charland.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Leo Joseph Charland will be held Wednesday, January 22, at 10:15 a.m.,
from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by Rev. James K. Joyce, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to Moments House in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street,
Pittsfield.
