Obituary for Lawrence E. Bowerman

LAWRENCE EDWARD BOWERMAN, 80, of 366 Elm Street, Pittsfield, died Sunday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield, July 1, 1926, a son of Winthrop H. and Esther Corkhill
Bowerman, he was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School. A World War II veteran, he served in the United States Army from August 26,
1944, until June 29, 1946, with the Military Police Signal Corps of the69th Battalion of
the 273rd Infantry Regiment. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, the Rhine , and
Leipzig. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, the European-African-Middle
Eastern Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Bowerman was employed as a special services lineman with New England
Telephone where he also served as a union steward. He retired in 1988 with 36 years
service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, a member of the Telephone
Pioneers and served as a President, and a member of the Italian-American Club where he
served as a past president, as well. He was also a member of the Lakewood Sportsman's
Club and had also coached Little League. An avid outdoorsmen, he enjoyed hunting, was
a fisherman and fly fisherman, and playing golf.
Mr. Bowerman leaves his wife, the former Angela Conte, whom he married September 26, 1953.
Besides his wife, he is surived by a son, David Bowerman of Charlottesville,
Virginia, a daughter, Lauren Bowerman of Burlington, Vermont; a sister, Marjorie
Murray of West Hartford, Connecticut, and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for LAWRENCE EDWARD BOWERMAN, who died Sunday,
August 6, will be held Wednesday, August 9, at 12:00 noon at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Dr. Luis E. Benavides, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr.Bowerman may be made to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association in care of the funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
Mr. Bowerman is also survived by his son-in-law, Barry Comeau and his
daughter-in-law, Janice Bowerman, and his three grandchildren, Phillip Comeau,
Drew Comeau, and Lindsay Bowerman.
