Obituary for Laurie Wallace Houston Denzel

LAURIE WALLACE HOUSTON DENZEL, 87, of 303 East New Lenox Road, Pittsfield, a longtime resident of Pittsfield, died Thursday, May 28, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Clayton, Alabama, on June 4, 1921, a daughter of Willie R. and Mildred
Wallace Houston, she was educated in Alabama schools and was a Valedictorian of her
Class at Clayton (Alabama) High School. She earned a bachelor of science degree from
the University of Alabama where she was the Homecoming Queen. She also studied at
Oxford University. Mrs. Denzel was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Pittsfield, Congregational.
She was also a member of the Country Club of Pittsfield, the Lenox Club, and the Berkshire Garden Club. She enjoyed traveling to Europe.
Her husband, Marvin R. Denzel, Sr., whom she married October 30, 1943, died June 25, 2006.
Mrs. Denzel is survived by a son, Paul H. Denzel and his wife, Susan, of Dalton; as well as her sisters-in-law, Beulah Houston of Dawson, Georgia, Hazel Denzel of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and Merle Houston of Marianna, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Denzel was pre-deceased by a son, Marvin R. Denzel, Jr., who died October 26, 1988, as well as two brothers and a sister.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for LAURIE WALLACE HOUSTON DENZEL, who died
Thursday, May 28, will be Wednesday, June 3, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Church of
Christ in Pittsfield, Congregational, with Rev. Dr. James Lumsden, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will be private in Pittsfield Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires, 877
South Street, Pittsfield. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
