Obituary for Larry L. Kurber

Larry L. Kurber, 86, of 34 Church Street, Stockbridge, MA, passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2017, with his son Mark at his side.
Born April 29, 1931, in Napoleon, Ohio, he was the son of the late Thelma Harrison and Leo Aloysius Kurber. He graduated from Napoleon High School and subsequently from Miami University of Ohio in 1953, where he also attended Officer Training. He served in the United States Marine Corps, active and Reserves until 1959 and was a longtime member of the American Legion in Pittsfield. He was employed by IBM through 1977, beginning in Detroit, then Poughkeepsie and eventually the Berkshires. He went into Real Estate as a Broker, was an active member of the Berkshire County Board of Realtors, became an accredited Commercial Real Estate Appraiser, taught multiple courses for the Board, and subsequently became a regional expert on appraising theaters, including the Colonial Theater restoration in Pittsfield, and throughout New England and eastern New York State. In semi-retirement, he manned the booth at the historical Stockbridge Transfer Station. He was a lifetime member of the Republican Party, and was active in Berkshire County and the Commonwealth. He enjoyed cooking, baking, college football, the New England Patriots and his daily workouts at the Lenox Fitness Center.
He leaves his two sons, Mark Harrison Kurber and Christopher Dwight Kurber, both of Berkshire County, and his former wife, Joan Fisher Kurber of Pittsfield. He also leaves his brother Keith C. Kurber of Dunedin, Florida, and his sister Rebecca Kurber of Cleveland, Ohio, nephews, Keith II and his wife Lola, Kirk, Peter and his wife Mary, Lisa and her husband Patrick, and ten grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother’s wife, Honey,
Memorial service and visitation: Dery Funeral Home, Saturday, December 2nd, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., with a brief service conducted by the Rev. Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, Pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, followed by a buffet at Mazzeo’s. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to USMC Toys for Tots or Soldier On c/o the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
