Obituary for Kathryn S. "Kathy" Ely

Kathryn S. "Kathy" Ely, 73, of 1206 North Street, Pittsfield, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 28, 20l3, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Denison, Iowa, on July 27, 1940, a daughter of Alvin Christian Jetter and
Marianna Hadenfeld Jetter, she was educated in Iowa schools and was a 1958 graduate of
Denison High School.
Mrs. Ely was proprietor of Piece of Pizza and K&K Discount Liquors. She retired in 2003 after 30 years.
She was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was also a member of the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center where she enjoyed playing bingo and scrabble.
She enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends, and loved Halloween. She was also an avid Red Sox fan.
Mrs. Ely leaves her husband, Gerald "Gerry" Ely, whom she married October 30,
1959, in California.
She is also survived by a daughter, Kristianna "Kristie" DiNicola (John), of
Pittsfield; two sons, Jay Ely (Ann Marie Charbonneau) of Peru, and Eric Ely of Pittsfield;
two brothers, Roger Jetter and Daniel Jetter, and a sister, Arlene Sonnichsen (Robert)
all of Aurora, Colorado; as well as seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Jared, Ryan,
Shayley, Joseph, Marco, and Justin, two great grandchildren, Kayden and Ella; and
many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Kathryn S. Ely will be held Friday, August 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 74 First Street, Pittsfield, with Rev. Timothy Weisman, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be private. Calling hours will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Church.
The family requests the omission of flowers. However, memorial contributions may be made to The Berkshire County Jimmy Fund in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
