Obituary for Kathleen Marie Young

Kathleen Marie Young, 73, of 36 Lenox Road, West Stockbridge, died Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Berkshire Medical Center.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 1, 1947, the daughter of Margaret Mara Black and the late Robert Black. She spent her childhood growing up in Brooklyn surrounded by her loving family.

Her passion for learning new things, sharing knowledge, and trying to make the world a better place led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Joseph’s College. Her love of teaching grew, and she went on to earn master’s degrees in Deaf Education from Gallaudet University and Special Education from Western Maryland College.

Mrs. Young served the Pittsfield Public Schools system as a teacher of the deaf, and after she retired, she continued to act as a consultant and substitute teacher.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in West Stockbridge and was a docent at Chesterwood for many years.

Her husband, Raymond Dorazio, whom she married on July 9, 1999, passed away July 12, 2017.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret Black, of Cohoes, N.Y.; three sons, Brian (and Jennifer) Young of Longwood, Fla., Michael Young, of Port St. Lucie, Fla, and Matthew (and Tamara) Young of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, Sunshine Young and Thomas Young; a sister, Margaret Divine of Glenmont and a brother, Robert Black of Niceville, Fla.

She was pre-deceased by her brother, Thomas Black.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Kathleen M. Young will be held Wednesday, May 12, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church (Route 41) West Stockbridge. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, West Stockbridge. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, kindly make contributions in memory of Mrs. Young to St. Labre Indian School in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
