Obituary for June P. Roy

JUNE PUTNEY ROY, 78, of 34 Westview Road, Lanesborough, died Tuesday,
May 26, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Holyoke, June 7, 1930, a daughter of Ransome C. and Hannah T. Riley
Putney, she attended Holyoke schools and was a 1947 graduate of St. Joseph High
School. She had served as recording secretary for the Class of 1947 Alumni.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Roy was employed by New England Telephone
Company from 1951 to 1966 and later worked at the Hickory Farms store from 1975
to 1978. Mrs. Roy was a communicant of the former North American Martyrs Church
where she taught CCD, was a member of the Rosary Society, served as secretary on the
Executive Board of the Parish Council, and was chairperson of the annual Christmas
Bazaar. She was a past president of the Lanesborough Elementary School PTO where she
was also a classroom mother. She was a prop manager for Mount Greylock Regional
High School student musicals. She was a parent leader for the Lanesborough Scholarship
Fund. She also served as a 4-H Leader.
Mrs. Roy was a seamstress who also enjoyed ceramics, gardening, and cooking.
She belonged to various book clubs, and she loved her swimming pool.
Her husband, Edward F. "Buddy" Roy, whom she married September 4, 1950,
died March 3, 2005. She was also pre-deceased by an infant son, Terrance Michael Roy,
who died in 1955, and by a sister, Johanna M. Hinkell and brother-in-law, Edmund M.
Hinkell. Mrs. Roy is survived by three sons, Thomas E Roy and his wife, Kathleen, of
Westfield, Indiana; Timothy F. Roy and his wife, Carolyn, of Henderson, Nevada, and
Todd M. Roy and his wife, Wanda Salter, of Rockingham, Vermont; a daughter,Teresa
Roy Marquis and her husband, Richard, of Pittsfield; a sister, Janet A. Roy and her
husband, William, of Dalton; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vincent and Betty
Zolkowski, and sister-in-law, Barbara Roy.
She was the cherished and beloved "Gi" to her nine grandchildren, Jason Roy,
Jessica Ovens, Megan Greek, Matthew Roy, Alice Salter-Roy, Timothy Salter-Roy,
Scott Marquis, Sophia Marquis, Samuel Marquis, her four great grandchildren, Audrey
Procopio; Jacob Satrappe, Hannah Ovens and Avery Ovens.She also leaves her extended family and friends at Berkshire Place and her good
friend, Betty Harmon, as well as many nieces and nephews, including three god children,
David Hinkell, Suzie MacLeod, and J.T. Roy.


FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for JUNE PUTNEY ROY, who died Tuesday, May 26, will be
Saturday, May 30, at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of
Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor.Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Roy may be made to Friends of Renal Dialysis in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
