Obituary for Joseph A. Sacchetti, Sr.

Joseph A. Sacchetti, Sr., 86, formerly of Dalton and Pittsfield, passed away February 3, 2022 at The Landing at Laurel Lake retirement community in Lee, MA, five days before his 87th birthday.

Born in Pittsfield, MA on February 8, 1935, he was the son of Angelo and Josephine Yannone Sacchetti.
He was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1952 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He entered the United States Air Force in 1954 and served during the Korean War. He was stationed at Westover Air Force Base and during his time in the service, he received a National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1958.

Mr. Sacchetti married the former JoAnn M. Guzzy on August 1, 1959 at St. Charles Church.

He was employed as a letter carrier for 30 years for the United States Postal Service. Prior to that, he worked for General Electric for 15 years.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, St. Agnes and the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Mr. Sacchetti was a member of the Knights of Columbus #411 and the Holy Name Society of the Berkshires. He was on the board of directors for Ad-Lib and also was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He enjoyed cross country skiing, golfing, travelling and enjoyed summering at Windsor Pond.

Mr. Sacchetti is leaves behind his wife of 62 years, JoAnn M. Sacchetti of Lee; his son, Mark A. Sacchetti of Doylestown, PA; daughter, Laurie Pedersen and husband Paul of Vero Beach, FL. Five grandchildren, Joel, Jenna, Jessica, Anna and Tessie; as well as his great-granddaughter, Lyra. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph A. Sacchetti, Jr., and daughter, Leah Thiss; two brothers, Francis Sacchetti and Carlo Sacchetti; and sister, Anna Tucker.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, THURSDAY, February 10, 2022 at 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield, celebrated by Rev. Christopher Malatesta, Pastor of St. Agnes Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to Ad-Lib or the Diocese of Springfield Deaf Ministry in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
