Obituary for Joseph R. Penna

JOSEPH R. PENNA, 84, of 36 State Street, Pittsfield, died Friday morning at
Providence Care Center of Lenox.
Born in Pittsfield, on May 26, 1924, a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Sinopoli
Penna, he attended Pittsfield Public Schools.
A World War II veteran, he served with the United States Army from March 17,
1943, to December 16, 1945, and fought in the Battle of Normandy.
Mr. Penna was employed with the City of Pittsfield, maintaining schools as a
carpenter and mason.
He was a communicant of St. Mark Church. He was a member of the American
Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Penna and his wife, the former Maryann Salatino, whom he married at Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield on June 18, 1949, had made their home at 36 State Street, Pittsfield, for 60 years.
Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Elizabeth DiNicola and her husband,
Albert of Washington, Massachusetts; five sons, Joseph A. Penna and his wife, Teresa of
Pittsfield, Anthony Penna and his wife, Josephine, of Golden, Colorado, Gerard Penna
and his wife, Pamela of Palm City, Florida, James Penna and his wife, Cheryl, of
Washington, Massachusetts, and Paul Penna and his wife, Fenton, of Highlands Ranch,
Colorado; as well as nine grandchildren, Jennifer Hould and her husband, Todd, of
Pittsfield; Michael DiNicola and his wife, Vanessa, of Tucson, Arizona, Mary Jane
Lusignan and her husband, Michael, Sarah Perrone and her husband, David, Nicala
Penna, of Palm City, Florida, Michaela Penna of Pittsfield, Michael Penna of
Washington, Massachusetts, and Olivia and Paul Penna of Highlands Ranch, Colorado;
and ten great grandchildren; also, four sisters, Ann Winters of Pittsfield, Mary Ricci, and
her husband, Alfred of Pittsfield, Rose Pochinchuck and her husband, James, of
Bradenton, Florida, Elizabeth Froio and her husband, Richard of Pittsfield; two brothers,
Vito Penna and his wife, Tina, of Pittsfield, and John Penna and his wife, Dolores of
Pittsfield. He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Anthony, Francis, and James of
Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for JOSEPH R. PENNA, who died Friday,
February 20, will be Monday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mark Church concelebrated by Rev. John C. Salatino, Pastor, and Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich.
Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's
Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday,Today from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL
HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Penna may be made to St.
Mark Church Memorial Fund, 400 West Street, Pittsfield.
