Obituary for Joseph Richard "Dick" Colwell

Joseph Richard (Dick) Colwell, 86, of Berkshire Town Apartments, Pittsfield, passed away January 23, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pittsfield, Ma on December 29,1935, he was the son of the late Arthur B. and Katherine Carty Colwell.
Dick attended St. Joseph Central High School in Pittsfield, and was a veteran of the United States Army. Dick was retired from the United States Postal Service, with over 25 years of service, and previously worked for General Electric.

Following his retirement, Dick enjoyed many years working parttime at Guido’s Market in Lenox. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and was active in city politics and loved to debate. Dick was an avid reader and regular at the Berkshire Library. He read 3 newspapers every day and would enjoy clipping articles he found interesting or controversial to send to his brother Art and good friend Jim S.

Dick was devout new England sports fan. “Grampa Dick” took great pride in all his Granddaughters achievements, he enjoyed attending their many dance recitals and local performances over the years.

Mr. Colwell is survived by his daughter, Shauna Harrington and son-in-law Christopher Harrington of Pittsfield; Son, Craig Colwell and daughter-in-law Leslie Colwell of Raynham, Ma; Brothers, Arthur Colwell of Pittsfield and John Colwell of Williamsburg, Ma. Granddaughters; Halli Stewart, Brodi DiBuono and husband Donald Jr., Laken Rand and husband Jacob, Annaliese Colwell and Marlena Colwell; Great granddaughters, Vera Stewart and Jianna Rand. He was predeceased by his Ex-wife Olga (Augie) Colwell in 2000.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, Friday, January 28, 2022 at 9 a.m. at St Joseph Church celebrated by Rev, Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, Pastor. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to St Jude’s Children Hospital. The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice Care of the Berkshires for their compassion, kindness and support.
