Obituary for Joseph Bilia, Jr.

Joseph A. Bilia Jr., 78 of Pittsfield passed away at his home on December 4, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Born in Pittsfield, on February 13, 1943 to Joseph and Agnes Campagna Bilia.

Joseph attended Pittsfield schools and was a 1960 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Bilia joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Japan throughout his 4 years of service. Joseph graduated from Berkshire Community College Design Course in 1969 and then the Massachusetts Apprentice tool and molding course in 1972. Joe started out at Appalachian Engineering as a tool maker and was promoted tool room foreman and again later 1985 to senior mold designer. In 1989 he took a position of senior mold designer for Prototype mold and tool until his retirement in 2009. After retiring Joseph worked part time as a courier for Berkshire Bank until 2016.

Mr. Bilia enjoyed fishing, bicycling, golfing and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren whom he adored.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Bilia of Pittsfield; daughter Wendy Marie Bilia of Southwick, Ma; son Stephen Joseph Bilia and fiancé Natalie Z. White of East Longmeadow Ma. Five grandchildren, Michael Hauser, Marcus Bilia, Sophia Bilia, Lauren Hauser, and Joseph Bilia. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, many cousins, aunts and uncles. A sister Marie Crews of Fairport, NY; brother in-law and wife, Michael and Joan Evens.

He was predeceased by a brother in-law, Raymond Crews.

Services for Mr. Bilia will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 6 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home. Calling hours will precede the services from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA
