Obituary for Joseph E. Bermant

Joseph Edward Bermant, born October 14, 1927, N.Y., N.Y., passed peacefully on January 15, 2013, near his long time home in The Berkshires.
After graduating from Scarsdale High School, 1944, Joseph served in the U.S. Army during WWII at Los Almos, N.M. After his service, Joseph attended The Wharton Undergraduate School of Business graduating in 1949 with a B.S. Economics.
Joseph was Sr. Executive Vice President of National Shopping Centers Management, working with his brothers, David and Robert. He had a short stint as a salesman for the Dreyfus Fund when it first pioneered mutual fund investing.
Son of Henry Bermant (deceased) and Anna Forma Bermant (deceased), loving
stepson of Etta Bermant (deceased), brother of David W. Bermant (deceased) and
Robert L. Bermant, stepbrother of Harold Robinson (deceased), Richard Robinson
(deceased), and Gerald Robinson (deceased), Joe is fondly remembered as a wonderful and witty uncle to Ann Bermant Hancock, Jeffrey Bermant, Wendy Bermant Lynn, Andrew Bermant, Donald Bermant, Susan Bermant Cola, and a dear friend and lifelong
companion of Richard Malkin (deceased), and dear friend of Richard Solomon, Michael
MacDonald, and Pat Buchard, and many others at the Allendale Shopping Center in
Pittsfield.
He was a lifetime supporter of Phi Lambda Phi and the University of Pennsylvania, enjoyed the challenge of using math and words in his everyday life,
loved theater and music, and most of all, was a great fan of his beloved NY Yankees.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Joseph Edward Bermant will be held Sunday, January 20,
at 10:00 a.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
