Obituary for Joseph F. Anello

Joseph F. Anello, 91, of Pittsfield, passed away December 3, 2023 at Craneville Place in Dalton with his loving family by his side.

Born in Pittsfield on October 6, 1932 to Joseph and Crocifissa DiFilippo Anello, he was educated in Pittsfield Schools.

Joseph married the former Shirley M. Matthews on February 8, 1958 in New Lebanon, NY.

He was a United States Navy Veteran.

Mr. Anello was a laborer, having been employed for 34 years with Peter Francese Construction and was a 60 plus year member of the Laborers Union #473 in Pittsfield.

An avid New York Yankees fan, he enjoyed going to New York to watch the games and cheer his team on.

Joseph was a handyman and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Shirley M. Anello of Pittsfield; two daughters, Jean F. Anello and fiancé Donald Benoit of Pittsfield and Sandra M. Anello-Ford of Pittsfield; two sons, Clifford T. Jones and wife Victoria of Spanish Fort, AL, and Patrick J. Anello and wife Darlene Olsen of Pittsfield. Nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mr. Anello also leaves three brothers, Frank Anello and wife Adriann of Cape Canaveral, FL, Samuel Anello and wife Karen of Pittsfield, James Anello of Cheshire, and two sisters, Elizabeth Yansak of Pittsfield and Connie Hart and husband William of Dalton.

He was predeceased by his son, Richard A. Anello and daughter, Maria L. Turville; as well as four brothers, Dominic, Anthony, Thomas, and John Anello.

Calling hours will be private for family only on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Soldier On and mailed to the funeral home.
