Obituary for Jonathan L. Tauer

JONATHAN LOUIS TAUER, 39, of 70 Conz Street, Northampton, formerly of
39 Cascade Street, Pittsfield, died Tuesday, April 8, at his home of complications from
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Born in Chicopee, October 21, 1968, a son of Robert L. Tauer and Mary C.
Anderson Tauer, he was a 1987 graduate of Taconic High School.
Mr. Tauer served with the United States Army from 1990 to 1994. He was a
decorated combat veteran who served a tour of duty in Somalia during the crisis of
October 1993. He received the Army Commendation Medal and two Army Achievement
Medals. After being honorably discharged, he obtained his HVAC certification. Soon
after that, his symptoms with PTSD began to manifest. Mr. Tauer enjoyed fishing, art, music, movies, and playing chess with his fellow
veterans at the Northampton Veterans Administration. He volunteered his time, taking
veterans to church and regularly performed the readings during Mass, as well as
transporting them to medical appointments. He worked part-time in the horticulture
division at the Veterans Administration.
Jon loved bird watching and really took the time to notice nature's beauty. He
loved all animals.
Besides his mother and his father, both of Pittsfield, he is survived by a brother,
David W. Tauer of Dracut, Massachusetts, and two nieces, Erika T. Tauer and Mackenzi
E.R. Tauer, both of Dracut.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for JONATHAN LOUIS TAUER, who died Tuesday, April
8, will be Saturday, April 12, at 9:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a
Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mark Church, celebrated by Rev. John C.
Salatino, Pastor. Calling
hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of
flowers, contributions in memory of Jon may be made to the Friends of Eleanor Sonsini
Animal Shelter in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
A graveside service with military honors for JONATHAN LOUIS TAUER, who
died Tuesday, April 8, will be held Saturday, April 19, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph's
Cemetery, with Rev. John C. Salatino, Pastor of St. Mark Church, officiating. Those
attending are invited to meet inside the Cemetery gate at 9:45 a.m. The DERY
FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
