Obituary for Jonathan "Jon" May

Jonathan “Jon” Edwin May, 86, formerly of Harding Street, and later of Melbourne Place, Pittsfield, died Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility.

Born in Pittsfield on June 16, 1932, the son of Edwin and Elise Fillio May, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.

A Korean War veteran, Mr. May served with the United States Army from 1952 to 1954.

Mr. May was employed by Bell Atlantic as a contract work inspector. He retired in 1997 with 42 years service. He was also a used-book dealer and was proprietor of J.J. Books in Richmond.

He had been a communicant of St. Teresa Church and had served on the Board of Directors of Pittsfield Cemetery. He was also an ombudsman and inspector for nursing homes in Massachusetts.

Mr. May leaves his wife, the former Josephine “Jo” Salzarulo, whom he married November 25, 1954.

He is also survived by a daughter, Theresa May O’Brien of Monterey; four sons, Edwin A. May (wife Teresa) of Pittsfield, Robert T. May (wife Joni) of Bethlehem, Penn., Christopher J. May (wife Barbara) of Richmond, and Joseph May (wife Jackie) of Lovettsville, Va.; 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Jonathan Edwin May will be held Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Thomas Bridgman, Pastor of Grace Church, Congregational, officiating. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
