Obituary for John Edward Szymanski

John Edward Szymanski, 83, of Pittsfield, passed away June 1, 2021 at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield.

He was born in Pittsfield on February 24, 1938 to William and Blanche Gniadek Szymanski.

He was a 1957 graduate of Pittsfield High School and was a United States Air Force Veteran.

In his early years Mr. Szymanski worked for Berkshire Auto then General Electric retiring in 1993.

He enjoyed travelling and photography. John also enjoyed tinkering with his tractors and mowing his field.

After bypass surgery Mr. Szymanski would workout at the Cardiac Rehab gym at BMC and earn an award for 3000 days of attendance.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Johnson and her husband Gary of Pittsfield, nephews, Michael Szymanski of South Burlington, VT and Christopher Johnson and wife Victoria of Lanesboro, nieces Tary Johnson of Pittsfield & Karen Dellert and husband Craig of Orange, CT. He was predeceased by his sisters, Susan Szymanski & Christine McNair, brother William Szymanski, and nephew John McNair.

Funeral Notice: Military graveside services for Mr. Szymanski will be held, Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, with Rev. Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
