Obituary for John Sobczyk

JOHN SOBCZYK, 93, of 43 Dean Street, Cheshire, died Wednesday night at North Adams Regional Hospital.Born in Adams, January 6, 1913, a son of John and Victoria Kruszyna Sobczyk,
he was a 1931 graduate of the former Adams High School, and moved to Cheshire in
in 1952.He was employed by General Electric Company where he worked as a toolmaker
for 36 years. He retired in 1978.
Mr. Sobczyk was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cheshire where he had
served on the Board of Deacons, the Board of Trustees, and the Finance and Building
Committees. He was also a member of the Upton Lodge of Masons and a member of the
G.E Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, and enjoyed
skiing well into his later years.
His wife, the former Rena R. Champney, whom he married January 23, 1937,in Notre Dame Church in Adams, died February 14, 2003.
Mr. Sobczyk is survived by a daughter, Lynn C. Krayewsky of Ormond Beach,Florida, and a granddaughter.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for JOHN SOBCZYK, who died Wednesday, November 1, will
be Monday, November 6, at 11:00 a.m., at the Berkshire Union Chapel with Rev.
William D. Furey, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling
hours will be Sunday, from _____ to ____ p.m., at the DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL
HOME. The Upton Lodge of Masons will conduct its service at the conclusion of calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Sobczyk may be made to the charity of one's
choice in care of the Funeral Home, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire. Mr. Sobczyk is also survived by his son-in-law, Michael Krayewsky and his
granddaughter, Jill Krayewsky. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Rosalie Blanchet.
