Mr. John A Panetti known as “Mr. P” 88, of 5 Sunset St. passed away from Covid, (contracted at Springside Nursing home) January, 25, 2021 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born August 15, 1932 the son of Giovanni and Susan Candilore Panetti, he attended local schools. He was a Navy veteran and was honorably discharged April 9th, 1952.
John had many jobs but most of his career was a self employed carpenter specializing in kitchens.
He and his wife, the former Lucia G. Cultrera Lizotte Panetti were married May 5th 1978 and enjoyed 43 years together traveling extensively to Europe, several cruises, and many resorts for polka dancing with Jersey Polka Richie and 30 years with the Eddie Forman Orchestra.
Besides his wife he leaves two sons, John C. of Pittsfield and Michael of Fort Pierce, Fla., two daughters Michelle Panetti Curley (Jim) and Melissa Perri (Joe). He leaves his wife’s children, Michelle Lampro (Jody), Anita Virgilio (Gary) and Michael Lizotte, and he also had people that were very special to him: Danny Kelly, Sylvia Lizotte, Jim Burke, John (Jack Gillis) and Gerry Rattigan. He leaves one sister Barbara Lazzari (John) and one sister-in-law, Alma Panetti and many nieces and nephews.
John is lovingly survived by 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by both parents, Brother Mario L. Panetti, sister’s Mary Panetti, Ann Coury, Betty Nugai, nephew Mario A. Panetti.
John was an avid candlepin bowler in the 50’s winning many trophies and breaking many records. His real passion was deep sea fishing and ice fishing. He loved cooking, mushrooming and watching the Yankees. In later years his favorite sport was polka dancing with his wife.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge 272, Italian American Club and former member of the Itam Lodge.
The family would like to thank Nurse Jessa from Springside Nursing home, Nurses from Berkshire Medical Center (third floor) Audrey, Lisa, Sarah, Allison P. and Aides, Ruchelle, Camila and Jackie for the wonderful care and compassion they showed John through his illness, and June Green & Jane from Hospice who kept me informed every day on John’s condition.
FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no calling hours. A Liturgy of Christian burial will take place Saturday, January, 30 at 10:00 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, celebrated by Fr. John F. Tuohey, Administrator. Rev. C.J. Waitekus will preach. There will be a polka mass with the Eddie Forman Orchestra. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to St. Charles Borromeo Church in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. 01201.
A picnic will be held at a later date to celebrate John’s life.
