Obituary for Joan M. Cadman
Joan M. Cadman, 83 of Washington, MA passed away at home after a short illness Saturday December 5, 2020. Where she was being cared for by family members and Hospice Care of the Berkshires.
Born in Pittsfield on December 8, 1936, the daughter of John H. and Beatrice Y. Lampron Campbell, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School in 1954.
Joan married Wilfred “Willie” Cadman on May 14, 1955 at St. Mathews Church in Becket, MA. The couple settled and built their home and family on Joan’s “Campbell Family Homestead” that was established in 1920.
Mrs. Cadman worked as a nurse’s aide in the original Mapleview Nursing Home. When Mapleview Nursing Home was relocated to Lover’s Lane Road, she worked as Activity Director. Mrs. Cadman then focus on working as a Teacher’s Assistant in the special education class at Becket School where she then retired from.
Joan loved spending time with her family and sharing stories of her parents and grandparents and where certain things were on the property when she was growing up. Going to church made her feel relaxed and at peace and was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Hinsdale, MA lead by Fr. Chris Pastor of St. Agnes Church in Dalton, MA. She loved making crafts, baking (she even baked her daughter’s wedding cake) and making homemade jam, playing cards with friends, going out dancing on a Saturday night and in the fall would attend the Hilltown fairs. She belonged to the “Secret Pal Club” for many years, visited Hilltown shut-ins and enjoyed going to COA gatherings in Washington & Becket. She also enjoyed all nature’s wildlife that she could view right in her own yard.
Mrs. Cadman is survived by her sister Lorraine Deane; son Wilfred “Butch” Cadman of Evington, VA and his life partner, Kathryn Garcia and children Melissa and Jeffrey granddaughter Ziva and their families; a daughter Christine Provencher and her husband Richard of Pittsfield, MA; five grandchildren Louann, Richard III and his wife Anna, Joseph, Rebecca and fiancé Frank and Nicole. 12 Great-grandchildren Brittney, Ashley, Shelby, Emily, Mathew, Alissa, Anthony, Lexus, Kyle, Jacob, Aurora and Jesse Jr.; 3 Great-great children Aubriella, Jasmine and Athena.
Joan is also survived by her dear friends that check in with her on a regular bases; Beverly Wiley, Jane Pytko, Irma Beurskens and Fran & Charlie Wellspeak.
She was predeceased by sister Marie Eames and brother John “Jack” Campbell.
Funeral Notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, FRIDAY, December 11, 2020 at 11 am at St. Agnes Church in Dalton, MA, celebrated by Rev. Christopher Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will be in North Becket Cemetery in the Spring 2021. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Joan M. Cadman for maintaining St. Patrick’s Church in care of St. Agnes Church. Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 E. Main St, Dalton, MA, is handling the arrangements.
