Obituary for Jeremiah E. Whitmire Jr.

Jeremiah E. "Jere" Whitmire Jr., 61, of 155 Balance Rock Road, Lanesboro died Friday at home. Born on July 31, 1946 in Pittsfield, MA he was a son of the late Jeremiah E. Whitmire Sr. and the late Ann M. Farrell Whitmire. A longtime resident of Lanesboro, he was educated in Lanesboro schools and was a 1963 graduate of Mt. Greylock Regional High School. He was also a graduate of the electricians apprentice training program. He served in the United States Navy. Mr. Whitmire was employed as an electrician for over forty years with the N.E.B.F. - I.B.E.W. Local #7 where he worked for R.A. Wilson Electric of Dalton traveling throughout the country. Jere was a certified scuba diver who also enjoyed racing speedboats. He also enjoyed drag racing having drove the dragster "Hells a Poppin" at Lebanon Valley Dragway. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cross country skiing and golfing. He was a member of the Skyline Country Club and a champion dart player. He was also the first drummer for "The Quarrymen". He leaves his wife, the former Amy Aulisio of Lanesboro whom he married on July 29, 1995. He also leaves two sons; Jason J. Whitmire of the State of Florida and Nicholas P. Whitmire of Lanesboro. Two daughters; Clara M. Wilker of the State of Florida and Annmarie Roy of Lanesboro. He also leaves a sister; Carol A. Striebel of Dalton and a brother; William Whitmire of Pittsfield and three grandchildren, Alexandria M. Wilker, Anthony Wilker and Makayla Roy. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Gail Oparowski who died in 1990.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Jeremiah E. "Jere" Whitmire Jr., 61, of Lanesboro who died May 23, 2008 will be held Wednesday at 8:00 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at St. Agnes Church in Dalton celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM at the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield.
