Jeffrey Allen DeForest, 55, of Hinsdale, MA, passed away January 24, 2019 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on October 15, 1963, the son of the late Charles R. and Joy A. Lewis DeForest, he was educated in Dalton Schools and was a 1982 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School and later earned a certificate in turf management.
He was married to Susan M. Perry Fitzgerald.
Jeffrey worked at Wahconah Country Club as a grounds keeper and also worked at Advanced Moving.
He enjoyed watching races at Lebanon Valley and cared for and loved his many animals. He was a big Patriots and Red Sox fan.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Susan Perry Fitzgerald of Hinsdale; his children, Kimberly Smith and husband Bruce of Syracuse, NY, and Jeffrey J. “J.J” DeForest of North Carolina; his step-sons, Eric Fitzgerald and wife Kristen of Peru, MA, Bryan Fitzgerald of Texas, Steven Fitzgerald and wife Naomi of Hinsdale, MA, Kyle Fitzgerald of Hinsdale, MA, and Shawn Fitzgerald of Worcester, MA; 4 step grandchildren Pippin, Windsor, Aurorah and Azaliah; two brothers, Robert DeForest and his wife Paula of Pittsfield, and David DeForest of Pittsfield; five sisters, Tina Baumann and husband William of Pittsfield, Bonnie Fallon and husband James of Pittsfield, Hope Blake and husband Robert of Dalton, Polly Whitestone and husband Kenneth of Dalton, and Patricia Baczek and husband James of Dalton; eight nieces and seven nephews, as well as many cousins and several aunts and uncles. Jeffrey was an easy man to like and he leaves his many friends as well.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Mr. DeForest will be held, WEDNESDAY, January 30, 2019 from 12pm to 1pm, with a Memorial Service at 1pm at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 E. Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
