Obituary for Jean S. Ogden

JEAN SULLIVAN OGDEN, 87, of Sunrise Assisted Living in Washington, D.C., died Sunday, May 20, at her home, following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born in Dalton, December 28, 1919, the daughter of Dr. Patrick Joseph and Margaret Maher Sullivan, she was a 1937 graduate of the former Dalton High School and a 1941 graduate of Smith College. After college, she moved to Washington, D.C., she worked for the Office of War
Information. From 1973 to 1978, Mrs. Ogden served as the Administrative Director of
Boston University's Libby Holman Center for Fine and Applied Arts in Stamford,
Connecticut, where she coordinated arts outreach activities including art lectures, dance
and music classes, clinics, and alumni activities.
While in Connecticut, Mrs. Ogden was active in many charitable and civic
endeavors focusing on the arts and education. She founded and directed the Lending
art Collection of the Greenwich Library and was a member of the Executive Board of the
Friends of the Greenwich Library. She also served on the Board of the American
Shakespeare Guild, Community Chest and Council, the Greenwich Chapter of the
American Red Cross, YWCA, Greenwich Philharmonic, and served as President of the
Greenwich Chapter of the Smith College Club for two years.In her later years, Mrs. Ogden returned to Washington, D.C., where she
continued to be involved in the arts and education. She made annual art explorations to
Italy, served on the Board of Overseers of the Corcoran Art Gallery where she co-chaired
the Affordable Art auction fundraisers, as well as chaired several annual fundraisers for
the Iona House Senior Services. She also served on the Board of the Puebla Institute for
Human Rights.She was the former wife of Peter K. Ogden, an architect, whom she met while in
Washington. They lived in New York City for several years before moving to
Greenwich, Connecticut.
Mrs. Ogden is survived by three daughters, Nancy Ogden of Branford,
Connecticut, Barbara Ogden of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Betsy Ogden of Hanover,
New Hampshire; a brother, Benjamin J. Sullivan of Dalton; and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for JEAN SULLIVAN OGDEN, who died Sunday,
May 20, will be held Friday, June 1, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by
Rev. Christopher J. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. There
are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Ogden may be
made to the Alzheimer's Association Research Fund, 225 North Michigan Avenue,
Chicago, IL 60601. The DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ogden was pre-deceased by her sister, Elinor Collins.
