Obituary for Jean I. Morgan
Jean Iva Morgan, 100, died Monday, January 25th, 2021, at Hillcrest Commons.
Her father’s “little tax deduction,” Jean was born in Bennington, VT on April 15, 1920, the only child of Allan Sylvester Morgan and Hazel Ellen (Truax) Morgan.
Jean grew up in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School in the January class of 1939. She studied at Green Mountain Junior College and graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor of science in physical education in December of 1942. In January of 1943 she was named director of physical education of East Pembroke (NY) High school, then at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School.
Returning to Pittsfield, Jean directed physical education for the Girl’s League. In 1947 she became a physical education instructor for PHS, later retiring from the original Taconic High School.
A member of Morningside Baptist Church, Jean was active with the choir.
Among other family, Jean leaves cousins Carolyn L. Adams of South Ryegate VT and Janis B. Phillips (William) of Schenectady.
No service is planned. Burial will be in the family plot at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington in the spring.
