Obituary for Jean K Ginthwain

Jean Krook Ginthwain, 89, passed away at home on Monday, January 11, 2021 surrounded by love, peace, and comfort.

Born in Pittsfield, Jean was the daughter of Jane A. and Fred N. Krook. She was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, and attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Jean was a member of the First Congregational Church of Pittsfield, teaching Sunday School there and in her teen years, participating in the church choir. She was also active in The Rainbow Girls. Her careers included being a stay-at-home mom, banking and bookkeeping. Her banking career began in 1982 at Old Colony Bank, working there until their closing. She also worked for years for Larry Hashim, Michael Hashim and Mark Lahey as a bookkeeper.

She loved animals (especially her cats and her grand-dog), sewing, gardening, and bird watching. Jean was loved for her sense of humor, quick wit, vibrance, warmth and generosity.

Jean is survived by her love of 40 years, John W. Koenig of Pittsfield. She also leaves her daughter Susan G. Goddard and Susan’s husband, Scott of Pittsfield. She will be missed so dearly. She leaves a son, Peter Ginthwain of Tolland, CT and his family, a brother, Nils Krook of New Jersey, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her cousin, Sally Simeone of Dalton, MA, with whom she shared many years of friendship, along with many other friends.

Sadly, due to the pandemic, there will be no calling hours, but a graveside service will be held in the Spring at Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
