Obituary for James G. Thorpe

JAMES GORDON THORPE, 59, of 334 Route 7, New Ashford, where he had lived since 1998, died Monday morning at his home following a long illness.He had previously lived in Pompano Beach and Boca Raton, Florida, for many years.
Born in Pittsfield, May 30, 1947, he was the son of Rufus A. Thorpe and the Late Nellie I. Winters Thorpe, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
Mr. Thorpe was employed as a chef at various restaurants and hotels in Florida
for many years.While in Florida he was a licensed pilot. He enjoyed fishing and clamming.
Besides his father of Pittsfield, Mr. Thorpe is survived by a son, James Thorpe
of Charlemont, and a daughter, Debra Goggia of Pittsfield; two sisters, Nora E. Frederick
of Pittsfield and Janet E. White of Vero Beach, Florida; a grandson; and his long-time
companion of 32 years, Diane A. Ramos, with whom he resided.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for JAMES GORDON THORPE, who died Monday, February
12, will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his
memory may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL
HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
Mr. Thorpe also leaves nieces and nephews.
