Obituary for James F. Leonard

JAMES FRANCIS LEONARD, 65, of 132 Velma Avenue, Pittsfield, died Sunday morning at his home. Born in Whitinsville, Massachusetts, on August 22, 1941, a son of Ernest J. and
Margaret Cahill Leonard, he was a 1959 graduate of Northbridge High School., and
was a 1988 graduate of Berkshire Community College where he earned an associate
of science degree in criminal justice.
He served in the Army National Guard from March 1964 to May 1966. A 1968 graduate of the Massachusetts State Police Academy at Framingham,
Mr. Leonard served as a State Police Officer with the Massachusetts State Police, Troop B,
earning the rank of lieutenant, retiring in 1992. Following his retirement, until earlier this year, Mr. Leonard served as Senior Investigator for the Insurance Fraud Bureau
He had, at one time, worked for General Electric Company, as well.
He enjoyed golf, tennis, and hiking.
Mr. Leonard leaves his wife, the former Catherine A. Houle, whom he married September 21, 1973.
Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Kristin M. Leonard of Pittsfield; a
brother, William J. Leonard of Northbridge, Massachusetts; and two sisters, Mary C.
Mulrenin of Whitinsville, Massachusetts, and Judith A. Sabourin of Hudson,
Massachusetts

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for JAMES FRANCIS LEONARD, who died
Sunday, October 8, will be Saturday, October 14, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Charles Church
celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor. There are no calling hours. In lieu of
flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Leonard may be made to HospiceCare in
The Berkshires or to the charity of one's choice in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME,
54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
