Obituary for James P. King

James Paul King, 86, of 80 Old State Rd, died unexpectedly in the early morning on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 after a brief illness.
Born August 6, 1926 in Freeport, IL he was the son of the late Frederick and Anna Sarlo King, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1943. He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in World War II and then with the Naval Reserve Mobile Construction Battalion 27 "SEABEES", achieving rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer E9 before retiring in 1983. Mr. King was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post 68 and Veterans of Foreign Wars where he served as Post Commander in 1986.
Mr. King worked at General Electric for 20 years and with the City of Pittsfield Public Works Department as a licensed Master Electrician until he retired at the age of 63.
During his healthy years, he was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, skeet shooting, bowling, and golfing. His greatest joy was spending time with friends at "The Bean Blossom Base" his Somerset, VT hunting camp.
In his later years he was a frequent patron at local restaurants where he enjoyed the kindness and courtesy of the staff, to whom his family extends their sincere appreciation.
He leaves his two sons; Frederick King of Hudson, NH and Jeffrey King of Berkshire Village; three grandchildren, Alexis, Scott, and Ashley; his closest friend; Robert Healey of Washington; and his four-legged companion Abby.
He was predeceased by his sister Madeline Abert.

Funeral Notice: A Memorial Service with Military Honors for James P. King who died January 22, 2013 will be held Saturday at 12:00 Noon at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by Pastor Sigmund Sadzinski. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Jim may be made to Soldier On, in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201
