Obituary for James "Chip" Fenn Dr.

Dr. James D., "Chip" Fenn, 59, of 447 High Street, Dalton, passed away at home on Monday, January 23. Born on April 24, 1957 in Springfield, he was a son of the late James D. and Lois "Pat" Mayer Fenn. He grew up in Dalton and graduated from Wahconah Regional High School in 1975 as class president. Chip attended Union College, where he learned to play rugby, a sport he loved and continued to play into his 50s. Chip was awarded a medical degree at University of Massachusetts Medical School, and devoted the majority of his career to emergency medicine. He was known for his expert diagnostic skills and his caring bedside manner. Chip was a lifetime fan of all Boston sports, especially the Red Sox. He is survived by his three sons; Connor J. Fenn of Philadelphia, PA, Bailey N. Fenn, and Patrick F. Fenn, and his former wife, Alice Fenn of Severna Park, MD; four sisters, Diane Fenn Snyder of Pittsfield, Judith C. Fenn of Chesapeake, VA, Frances M. "Sissy" Fenn of Pepperell, MA and Laura J. Fenn of Springfield, MA; three brothers, Michael B. Fenn of Chesapeake, VA, John A. Fenn of Chesapeake, VA and Paul W. Fenn of Belchertown, MA. His brother, Thomas D. Fenn of Dalton, MA predeceased him. Chip is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends including his godchildren, Ryan Snyder, of New Hampshire and Kelsey Fenn, of Belchertown, MA.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held Friday, February 3 from 4 to 7 PM at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 4 at 11:00 AM in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton, conducted by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor of St. Agnes Church in Dalton. Memorial contributions in Chip's memory may be made to the Dalton CRA in care of the funeral home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226.
