Obituary for James F. Duffy Sr.

James Francis Duffy, Sr., 85, of 293 High Street, Dalton, died Tuesday, June 19,
2012, at his home.
Born in Dalton on June 28, 1926, a son of James J. and Julia Hart Duffy, he was
educated in Dalton schools.
A World War II veteran, he was inducted into the United States Army on
November 10, 1944, served as a Corporal, and was honorably discharged on August 22,
1946.
Mr. Duffy was a carpenter, builder, and contractor for more than 40 years. He
then worked six years for Crane & Co., Inc. as a millwright before retiring in 1990.
Following retirement, Mr. Duffy helped in the family business, Duff & Del's
Restaurant in Dalton.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church.
He was a member of the Dalton Fire Department for 18 years and had been a
member of the Dalton Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed reading.
He was a loving grandfather who enjoyed helping his family.
Mr. Duffy leaves his wife, the former Julia P. Smachetti, whom he married July
13, 1950, in St. Mary the Morning Star Church in Pittsfield.
He is also survived by two daughters, Eileen K. McCormick of Cheshire, and
Joanne M. Delmolino and her husband, William, of Dalton; two sons, James F. Duffy, Jr.,
of Pittsfield, and Michael J. Duffy of San Francisco; two sisters, Mary Bazonski of
Dalton, and Corrine Jones of Vero Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren, William
Delmolino and his wife, Cheryl, Ryan Delmolino, Laura Pomeroy, Keith McCormick,
Lynn Spooner and her husband, Sean, Kristy McCormick, and Scott McCormick, and a
great grandson, Anthony Shufelt.
He was pre-deceased by two brothers, William Duffy and Joseph L. Duffy, and by
a sister, Elaine Carmel.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for James Francis Duffy, Sr., will be held Friday, June 22, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Agnes Church celebrated by Rev.
Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. There are no
calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Duffy may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires or to Dalton Ambulance and Rescue, both in care of
