Obituary for James W. Blake

James William Blake, 67, of 17 Kenwood Street died Saturday, June 13 at his home with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle against cancer.
James, son of Harry and Mary Hoctor Blake, was born on August 30, 1941 in Chatham, NY. He was a 1959 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School and served as a member of the US Coast Guard Reserve.
Mr. Blake retired from General Dynamics, formerly General Electric Ordnance, as payroll accountant with 35 years of service.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed the beach, travelling, walking, gardening, reading and playing cards. He was an avid sports fan and supported the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics.
His wife, the former Brenda D. Hoar, whom he married on October 12, 1964, died on April 17, 2007. He was also predeceased by his sister Anne Marie Jacob.
He leaves behind two sons Joseph Blake and wife Laura of Birmingham, MI and Matt Blake and fianc� Melissa Dorsey of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters Shannon Steinman and husband Brett of Pittsfield and Megan Brandall and husband Timothy of Billerica, MA; seven grandchildren Molly Blake, Jacob Brandall and Keelan, Scott, Peyton, Brett Jr. and London Steinman; one sister Constance Robinson of Dalton; and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Funeral Notice:The funeral for James William Blake who died Saturday, June 13, 2009 will be held Wednesday, June 17 at 10:15 am at DERY FUNERAL HOME. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. James K Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow at Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, June 16 from 4 to 7 pm. At Jim's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to Sacred Heart Church or the Boys' & Girls' Club in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
