Obituary for Jacquelyn L. Janes Weatherwax

Jacquelyn L. Janes Weatherwax passed away on December 4, 2023 after a period of declining health related to Alzheimer's disease. Jackie as she was known, was born to Thomas and Dorothy Janes on March 22, 1938. She was lovingly raised by Nettie and Samuel Dorgan.

She graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1956. In 1959, she met her husband, John "Jack" Weatherwax. They married on September 17, 1960. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage until his passing in 2005. Over the years, in addition to raising her three children, she had careers at The American Heart Association and Berkshire Life Insurance Company.

In the years after her husbands' passing, Jackie enjoyed several trips, here and abroad, with friends, family and her fellow church members, fulfilling a lifelong dream to travel the world. Another lifelong dream of Jackie's was to earn a college degree. At 70 years of age, she enrolled at Berkshire Community College, taking many courses that interested her and earned her associate's degree in liberal arts with high honors. She attended her graduation ceremony in 2015 and was proud to be the oldest member of her graduating class!

Jackie remained active over the years, volunteering many hours at places such as Herman Melville, Berkshire Scenic Railway, Ventfort Hall, and R.S.V.P. She was also a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Saint Anne's Guild and enjoyed knitting endless prayer shawls for all in need. Her favorite assignment was her most recent weekly volunteering at Hillcrest Campus of Phelps Cancer Center. Jackie was an avid reader and always looking for her next book to read.

She also was always there for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren often babysitting, attending dance recitals and cheering from the sidelines at so many sporting events.

Anyone who met Jackie would describe her as the kindest human being they had ever met. Jackie was predeceased by her husband Jack, her parents Tom and Dot, and her brother Tommy Janes. She is survived by her sister MaryJo Romero and her husband Willie and their son Nick. Jackie is also survived by her three children: Her daughters Beth Bolus and her husband Joseph, who became her full time, loving caregivers when she could no longer live on her own and Jane Anglin and her husband Jim, and her son Kent Weatherwax.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Jacquelyn Powers and her husband Jon, Shaunna Ferry and her husband Sean, and Anthony Brogan and his wife Kristin, Mary Anglin, Sean Anglin, and Steven Anglin, Dylan Carmel and Leandra Carmel.

Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren Madelyn, Grace, and Julia Powers, Joseph Houle, Connor Peltier, Jace and Cole Brogan and Trinity Carmel, Cassius, and Kooper Chandler.

Her family would like to sincerely thank the staff and nurses at Hospice of the Berkshire. They would especially like to thank Jackie's granddaughters Shaunna Ferry and Jacquelyn Powers for their endless loving care and support for Jackie's during her final days before her passing.
