IRVING E. FENTON, 89, of Satsuma, Florida, passed away on Monday, May 18, at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka, Florida. He lived the majority of his life in Pittsfield before moving to Melbourne, Florida, 25 years ago. He lived in Satsuma for the past three years. He was born in Pittsfield, on Thursday, August 28, 1919, to the late Sidney and Florence Phelps Fenton. A graduate of the Pittsfield High School Class of l937, he then attended Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vermont. At both Pittsfield High School and Vermont Academy, he played baseball and hockey.
Irving faithfully served his country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the baseball team at the
Naval Air Station in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He played first baseman for that team in the first Army-Navy benefit for the Jimmy Fund in 1942 held at Fenway Park
Mr. Fenton was Manager of the Parts Department at the former Lindsay
Chevrolet in Pittsfield for many years.
While in Pittsfield, he was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church where he was the scoutmaster of Troop 6 and also coached the St. Stephen's basketball team in the church league. He attended Hope Lutheran Church in Satsuma.
He was an avid sports fan who especially loved the Boston Red Sox.
Mr. Fenton is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Fenton; his sons, Craig Fenton
and his wife, Diane, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Richard Fenton and his wife, Jill of Dover, Massachusetts; a grandson, Matthew Fenton of Atlanta, Georgia; and grand-daughters, Kelly Fenton of Providence, Rhode Island, Kimberly Fenton of Boston, Massachusetts, and Sabrina Brannon and husband Kevin of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister,
Lois Robertson of Lenox; a brother-in-law, Oliver Parsons, a sister-in-law, Mary Pulliam
of Satsuma; and numerous nephews and nieces, and friends who will miss him dearly.

FUNERAL NOTICE:A memorial service for IRVING E. FENTON, who died Monday, May 18,
will be held in Pittsfield at a later date. A memorial service was held on May 23 in Satsuma, Florida. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of local arrangements.
