Obituary for Irene M. Kipp

IRENE M. KIPP, 83, formerly of Gamwell Avenue, Pittsfield, died Monday, December 22, at Hillcrest Commons.Born in Nassau New York, October 9, 1925, the ninth in a farming family of eleven children, born to Harold and Marguerite Bernard Kimmey, she was valedictorian of her high school class in Averill Park, New York. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Kipp had worked for the State of New York in
Albany prior to her marriage.
She and her husband, Oscar K. Kipp, a World War II Army veteran whom she married September 21, 1946, upon his return from service in the Philippines, moved to
Pittsfield in 1946, where their children were born, and their home was the scene of many family gatherings over the years.
Oscar's death on October 22, 2003 left a void for Irene that could not be filled, though she continued for awhile to bake her famous chocolate chip cookies and loved visits from her family. Her gentle, quiet ways were a profound influence on her grand-
children, and she was always their best audience. An avid reader, expert cook, and
supremely patient baby soother, Irene was the heart of her family and will be forever
remembered.She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kipp was the devoted mother of Roger H. Kipp and his wife, Priscilla, of
Townsend, Massachusetts; Janet M. Belanger and her husband Richard of Dalton; and
grandmother of Paul Belanger of Pittsfield; Derek and Carolyn Kipp of Easthampton;
Jeremy and Lyn Kipp of Milford, New Hampshire; Seth and Sarah Kipp of Somerville;
and Scott Kipp of Washington, D.C.; and great grandmother of Aidan and Delaney Kipp
of Milford, New Hampshire.
