Obituary for Igantius J. Wojtaszek

IGNATIUS 'IKE' JOSEPH WOJTASZEK, JR., 69, of 357 Lanesborough Road,Cheshire, died Thursday morning at his home following a long illness.
Born in Adams, May 19, 1938 the son of Ignatius J. Wojtaszek, Sr., and Anna
Trzpis Wojtaszek, he was a 1957 graduate of Adams High School and a graduate of
Berkshire Business College. Continuing his education, he completed NABAC summer
banking and audit control courses at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1967,
and received his Treasurer certification after completing courses at the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst in 2006.
Mr. Wojtaszek was employed by the First Agricultural Bank, MultiBank and
Fleet, with mergers, as an auditor for 26 years. He was Town Treasurer of Cheshire
for 36 years, retiring May 7, 2007.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church where he served
on the Parish Council, the Finance Council, and was an usher and funeral acolyte, as
well. He was a Boston Red Sox fan, who also loved decorating his home at Christmas,
gardening, riding his Kabota tractor, and vacationing on Cape Cod.
Mr. Wojtaszek leaves his wife, the former Diane A. Castronova, whom he married September 2, 1963, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, John J. Wojtaszek and a granddaughter.


FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for IGANTIUS J. "IKE" WOJTASZEK, who died Thursday,
September 14, will be Tuesday, September 18, at 9:45 a.m., from DERY-CHESHIRE
FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary of
The Assumption Church, celebrated by Rev. David R. Raymond, Pastor. Burial will
follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.,
at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Wojtaszek
may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church or to HospiceCare in The
Berkshires, both in care of the Funeral Home, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire.
Mr. Wojtaszek, who was "dziadziu" to his granddaughter, Breanna, whom he
loved dearly, also leaves his daughter-in-law, Deanna Smith Wojtaszek; his father-
and mother-in-law, Anthony J. Castronova, Jr., and Pauline Germanowski Castranova
of Pittsfield; three brothers-in-law, Anthony J. Castronova, III, Robert LeBlanc, and
Edward Maloney, all of Pittsfield; four sister-in-law, Jane Castronova, Carolyn LeBlanc,
and Katherine Maloney, all of Pittsfield, and Janet Baird of Danbury, New Hampshire;
his godmother, Elizabeth "Betty" Godek of Adams, his aunt, Roma Trzpis of Adams;
and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
