Obituary for Howard E. Best

HOWARD EARL BEST, 55, of 13134 Route 22, Canaan, New York, died Monday morning at Berkshire Medical Center. Prior to moving to Canaan twelve years ago, he had resided in Richmond for many years. Born in San Diego, California, December 4, 1951, a son of Roy L. and Barbara
Lee Best, he was a graduate of schools in San Diego. For ten years, Mr. Best was a self-employed painter. He retired in 2003 due to ill
health. For fifteen years previously, he had been a truck driver for Mayflower Van Lines.
He enjoyed woodworking, photography, sports, music, and being with his
family. Mr. Best leaves his wife, the former Cecile Coughlin, whom he married October
14, 1983, at St. Martin Episcopal Church in Pittsfield.Besides his wife, he is survived by a stepson, Thomas C. Renton of Richmond;
three stepdaughters, Jody Whited of East Falmouth, Massachusetts, Heather Sica of
Slingerlands, New York, and Amy Renton of Austerlitz, New York; two brothers,
Dusty Best of Holualoa, Hawaii, and Robert A. Best of Canaan, New York; two sisters,
Marjorie Cray of Mountainview, California, and Ellie Goodman of San Diego; eight
step grandchildren, two nephews, and three nieces.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for HOWARD EARL BEST, who died Monday, October 8,
will be held today, Wednesday, October 10, at 12:00 Noon at Episcopal Church of Our
Savior in Lebanon Springs, New York. There are no calling hours. In lieu of f.lowers,
contributions in memory of Mr. Best may be made to Berkshire Medical Center Renal
Dialysis Unit or to the American Diabetes Association in care of DERY FUNERAL
HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
