Obituary for Helen M. Torrey

Helen Mildred Torrey, 96, of 160 Brighton Avenue, Pittsfield, a lifelong resident of Pittsfield, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at her home.
Born in Pittsfield on March 13, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Ida Fairbanks Longstaff, she was
educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Torrey was a homemaker. During the 1940s, she worked at General Electric Company for
seven years.
She was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church.
She enjoyed being with her family and spending time at her summer home in Maine. She also enjoyed bowling, camping, playing cards, and watching "Days of Our Lives" soap opera.
Her husband, Marshall W. Torrey, whom she married July 7, 1942, in St. Martin Church, died
August 10, 2003.
Mrs. Torrey is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Barbara L. Contenta and her husband,
Anthony, of Pittsfield; two sons, Donald L. Torrey and his wife, Linda, of Orlando, Florida, and Bruce
Torrey, also of Orlando; five grandchildren, Lisa, Darrin, Ryan, Melanie, and Phillip, eight great grand-
children, Bryanna, Brayden, Shaelyn, Rhylann, Tori, Tyler, Ethan, and Rachel; as well as several nieces
and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by a brother, Harold Longstaff and a sister, Ruth Eulian.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Helen Mildred Torrey will be held Tuesday, March 11, at 1:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with Rev. Jennifer Gregg, Priest Associate of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
