Obituary for Hazel J. Munro

Pittsfield: Mrs. Hazel J. Munro, 101, of 86 Crofut Street, Pittsfield died Saturday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox where she resided since August of 2004. Born on September 5, 1906 in Nova Scotia, Canada she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Jean Gray Clarke. A longtime resident of Pittsfield, she came to the United States in the 1930's. She was educated in Nova Scotia schools where she graduated from high school in 1924. After high school she went on to Amherst Business College in Amherst, Nova Scotia where she graduated in 1926. She married her husband, the late Ansel D. Munro in 1932 in Nova Scotia, Canada. He died in 1976. A homemaker, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield. She enjoyed baking for the Women's Exchange and was an accomplished seamstress and bridge player. She was also a longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox. She leaves a son, John D. Munro of Pittsfield and a daughter, Mary Ellen Hines of Pittsfield. Six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a great-great grandson. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lt. Col. Jean Anne Munro, late of Lenox who died October 13, 1996.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services and burial for Hazel J. Munro, 101, of Pittsfield who died November 24, 2007 will be private. There are no calling hours. For over forty years she took great joy in being a grandmother to her grandchildren, Donna Murphy, David and William Murray, Debra Burchard, William Hines Jr. and Kimberly Kinne as well as to her great grandchildren and great-great grandson. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Barbara Munro, her son-in-law, William M. Hines and her dear friend Amy. She was also predeceased by a brother and sister. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield or to the Berkshire Humane Society both in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201 which is in charge of arrangements.
