Obituary for Harold F "Uncle Buck" VanBergan
Harold F. "Uncle Buck" VanBergan, 82, of Pittsfield, MA, passed away December 29, 2018 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born in Pittsfield on June 30, 1936, the son of Roy and Hazel Glennon VanBergan.
Mr. VanBergan was a 1954 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a graduate of Berkshire Community College. He then joined the United States Army and was a Specialist 3rd Class.
He married the former Joan Vaccaro on February 8, 1958.
Mr. VanBergan worked for 30 plus years as a telephone engineer, having worked for MA Bell, New England Telephone and Verizon.
A communicant of the former Notre Dame Church, he also volunteered there and in his spare time enjoyed golfing and gardening. He was also an avid flyer in his younger years.
Mr. VanBergan leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Joan VanBergan of Pittsfield; He also leaves a nephew, Jack Francis, of Portsmouth Virginia, two nieces, Jill Bonacquisti and her husband Jeff, and Robin Cookis and her husband Mark, of Pittsfield, who he was a father to. He also leaves a great-nephew, Brian Bonacquisti, and three great-nieces, Alyssia Bonacquisti, Kendra Cookis, and Emma Cookis, who he was a grandfather to. He also leaves his sister in-law, Karen Kane, nephew, Bruce Eggleston, and several extended family members.
He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Eggleston.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Harold F. VanBergan will be held, Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 12:00 noon at DERY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Michael F. Bernier, officiating. Calling hours will precede the service from 11 to 12pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Berkshire Humane Society, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
