Obituary for Grace V. Gilbert

GRACE V. GILBERT, 89, of BerlshireTown Apartments, a resident of West
Pittsfield for many years, died Monday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Haverhill, New Hampshire, April 2, 1917, the daughter of Lucy Hardy Pike, she was educated in Pittsfield schools.
Mrs. Gilbert was a homemaker. She had also worked as a clerk at the former
Zayre and Neisner department stores and for Dunkin' Donuts. During World War II,
she had worked at General Electric Company.
She enjoyed country-western music, Elvis Presley, and visiting the White Mountains in New Hampshire.
Her husband, William Nelson Gilbert, whom she married May 31, 1933, died March 19, 1987.
Mrs. Gilbert is survived by two sons, Bruce F. Gilbert of Palm Bay, Florida,
and Nelson L. Gilbert of Central, South Carolina; three daughters, Barbara Cozine of
Canton, Kansas, Cheryl A. Gilbert of Pittsfield, and Claudine V. Clarke of Decatur,
Georgia; a brother, Francis Pike of Pittsfield; 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren,
and 16 great great grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for GRACE V. GILBERT, who died Monday, June 26, will be
Thursday, June 29, at 11:00 a.m., at Immanuel Community Church, (corner of Melbourne
Road and Chapel Street, Pittsfield) with Rev. John T. Cunningham, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, from 4:00 to
7:00 p.m., at the DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory
of Mrs. Gilbert may be made to The Kids Place in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford
Street, Pittsfield.
Mrs. Gilbert was pre-deceased by a brother, Amos Pike, who died during World
War II, and two sisters, Cora Greenleaf and Bernice Cornelio.
