Obituary for Gordon F. Gates Sr.
GORDON FREDERICK GATES, SR., 64, of 19 Hillside Street, Pittsfield,died Wednesday morning at Hillcrest Commons where he had resided since July 6th. Born in Pittsfield, May 3, 1942, a son of Gordon J. and Marjorie Jacques Gates,
he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
Mr. Gates was employed as a tree surgeon with John H. Flynn Tree Service in
Lenox for many years retiring in the 1980's. He also worked part-time as a taxicab driver during and after his employment with Flynn Tree Surgeons.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, tying his own flies for
fly-fishing, and he also enjoyed NASCAR and watching wrestling on television.
He also enjoyed going on car rides to Vermont.
Mr. Gates is survived by his wife, the former Geraldine B. DeLuce, whom he
married in 1982. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Gordon F. Gates, Jr., of Manchester,
Connecticut; two daughters, Tammy L. Newhall of Vernon, Connecticut, and Tracy A.
Deane of Manchester, Connecticut; a brother, John M. Gates of Pittsfield; three sisters,
Lorraine Robitaille of Pittsfield, Esther Knappe of Pittsfield, and Geraldine
Daly also of Pittsfield; and six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for GORDON F. GATES, SR., 64, of Pittsfield who died Wednesday, August 9, 2006 will be held Friday, August 11th, at 1:00 PM, at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. William D. Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel, officiating. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be Friday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service at the Dery Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in
memory of Mr. Gates may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the
Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.Mr. Gates also leaves his six grandchildren; Jayson, Jennifer, Richard, Emily, Ryan and Alison and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Christopher Gates, and two sisters, Theresa Fosty and Joanne Obert.
