Obituary for Gloria Wells
Gloria Jean Wells, 81, of Washington, MA, passed away January 15, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield, MA on November 14, 1940 to Leroy and Mildred Bruffee Phelps, she was educated in local schools.
Gloria married Lawrence B. Wells on July 20, 1958. He predeceased her on December 12, 2018 after 60 years of marriage.
Mrs. Wells was the owner-operator of the former Stacy’s Sub & Beef on North Street, Pittsfield from 1985 to 1995 with her husband Lawrence. She was also a waitress at Peter’s Diner and Brass Rail.
She enjoyed traveling and going to Atlantic City. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Wells is survived by her son, Larry Wells of Washington, MA; Daughters, Stacy Graves of Washington, MA, and Margaret Wells of Pittsfield; Sisters, Elaine Oaks of Hinsdale, and Dawn Breck of Utah; brothers, Leon Phelps of Pittsfield and Keith Phelps of Texas. Seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her sister, Sandra Young and brother Robert Phelps.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Wells will be held, SATURDAY, January 22, 2021 at 9 a.m. at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held, FRIDAY, January 21, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
