Obituary for Gloria J. Emery Gavenas

Gloria J. Emery Gavenas, much loved wife, nurse, relative, and friend, peacefully completed her life's journey on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. She was a resident of Hillcrest Commons for the past several years.
Born in Vermont on July 22, 1934, Gloria spent her youth there later leaving to attend and graduate from the former Henry W. Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Ma. As a registered nurse, she worked at the newly built Pittsfield General Hospital, today known as Berkshire Medical Center, and Berkshire Place in Pittsfield, Ma. Gloria was a gentle, loving, and precise nurse humbly receiving much respect and admiration from her patients and co-workers who loved her.
During her later years of practice, Gloria was honored to accept a private night nurse position for famed artist Norman Rockwell in his Stockbridge, Ma., home caring for him from 1977 until his passing in 1978 and went on to care for his wife Molly.
She was a talented pianist and a master at knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint. Gloria and husband Al enjoyed yearly trips to Cape Cod, Ma., where they sailed a boat that her husband had built in his garage. For over 40 years, they made their home by the lake in Lanesboro Ma., enjoying swimming, sailing, and gardening in the summer, walks in the woods, and sitting by the fire with a good book on harsh winter days.
Gloria was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 40 years, Albert Gavenas and her Vt. parents. She leaves family members and friends from across the country.
Gloria now rejoices with her beloved husband, parents, and past family whom she dearly loved. This lovely lady will be dearly missed by all and especially by her cousin and fellow nurse "Rosie."
There will be no services. Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ma. is in charge of arrangements.
