Obituary for George J. Sherman Jr.

: George J. Sherman Jr., 76, of 176 Columbus Avenue, Berkshiretown Apartments died Tuesday evening at home. Born on January 6, 1940 in Pittsfield, he was the son of the late George J. Sherman Sr. and the late Florence Chase Sherman. He was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1957 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also served in the United States Marine Corp Reserves. George was employed for thirty years as a paper maker at Schweitzer-Maudit in Lee. He retired in 1997. He enjoyed walking, bowling and Play Station games. He was a member of the local Pitch Leagues and an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He also was a longtime friend of Bill W. He leaves his son; Damian J. Sherman of Pittsfield and his longtime companion; Elizabeth "Bette" Spigelmyer of Pittsfield. He also leaves his former wife; Diane Sherman of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by his sister; Janet Sherman.

FUNERAL NOTICER: At George's request services will be private. Burial will take place in the family plot in Pittsfield Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in memory of George may be made to Hospice care in the Berkshires in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201 which is handling arrangements.
